Ellen was born in Medford, MA on April 10, 1945. She attended Nazareth Academy in Winchester in grades 9-12. Ellen graduated from Boston College in 1967 with a bachelor's degree where she majored in special education. She taught special education classes in the Medford Public Schools for four years. While teaching in Medford she enrolled in Boston State College and obtained a Master's Degree in Special Education and School Psychology. She taught for more than 20 years in the Halifax School District. She was proud to have worked on behalf of the Halifax Teachers as President of the local teachers association but her true joy came from seeing her many students learn to read and write.

Ellen in her later life was proud to call herself a "devout democrat". She volunteered in Elizabeth Warren's senate campaign and was always willing to debate in favor of the democratic positions especially those related to advancing education and social programs. Additionally she was always excited to provoke her sons and grandchildren into heated political discussions.

Her home away from home was Naples, Florida where she was active in the social activities of the Bay Forest Condominium Complex including the swimming club, Bone Builders and Bocce Ball League during the winter months. Her greatest joy was reading and discussing fiction and non-fiction with her husband and friends while in Florida.

Her Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Corpus Christi Parish 324 Quaker Meeting House Road, East Sandwich. Interment is private.

In lieu of flowers the family is suggesting donations to Edith Stewart Chase Foundation. http://www.edithstewartchasefoundation.org/donate/donate.htm
